Google Scholar est un moteur de recherche académique permettant de chercher gratuitement parmi de nombreuses sources universitaires: articles revus par des comités de lecture, thèses, livres, résumés analytiques et articles.

Les éditeurs sources sont généralement des éditeurs scientifiques, des sociétés savantes, des référentiels de prépublication, des universités et d’autres organisations de recherche.

Comment utiliser Google Scholar?

Faites une recherche classique en tapant des mots-clés. L'opérateur ET est implicite (ça veut dire que le moteur de recherche tient compte de tous les mots que vous indiquez). Pour rechercher une expression exacte, utilisez des guillemets. Voyez ci-dessous nos différents conseils.

Comme dans le monde de la recherche, le moteur trie les résultats en favorisant les articles les plus cités par d’autres. Il se base sur l’intégralité du texte de l’article, le nom de l’auteur et de la publication dans laquelle l’article est paru.

Comment chercher sur Google Scholar des contenus récents?

Pour rechercher des articles plus récents, essayez les options suivantes dans la barre latérale gauche:

  1. cliquez sur "Depuis l'année" pour afficher uniquement les articles récemment publiés, triés par pertinence
  2. cliquez sur "Trier par date" pour afficher uniquement les nouveaux ajouts, triés par date
  3. cliquez sur l'icône de l'enveloppe pour recevoir périodiquement de nouveaux résultats par email

Comment faire des recherches documentaires avancées?

Vous pouvez utiliser ces opérateurs:

  • author: pour chercher un auteur précis
  • intitle: pour chercher dans le titre de l'article
  • site: pour limiter la recherche à un site précis

Voici quelques autres conseils:

  • Si vous ne connaissez pas encore assez bien les termes du sujet cherché, renseignez-vous sur la terminologie en cherchant les expressions du jargon sur des sites spécialisés ou sur Wikipédia.
  • Si les résultats de la recherche sont trop spécifiques pour vos besoins, consultez ce qu'ils citent dans leurs sections "Références". Les ouvrages référencés sont souvent de nature plus générale.
  • De même, si les résultats de la recherche sont trop basiques pour vous, cliquez sur "Cité par" pour voir les articles les plus récents qui les ont référencés. Ces articles plus récents seront souvent plus spécifiques.
  • Cliquez sur "Articles connexes" ou "Cités par" pour voir les travaux étroitement liés, ou recherchez le nom de l'auteur et voyez ce qu'il a écrit d'autre.

Comment faire une recherche par auteur?

Utilisez l'opérateur author: suivi du nom de l'auteur, entre guillemets s'il y a plusieurs mots. Par exemple author:"jean tirole" pour chercher les articles de Jean Tirole.

Comment faire une recherche de PDF?

Ajoutez filetype:pdf à votre recherche, par exemple filetype:pdf jean tirole pour chercher les articles de Jean Tirole au format PDF.

Comment configurer un compte citations Google Scholar?

Il faut vous créer un profil de citations Google Scholar (c'est rapide et gratuit).

  1. Connectez-vous à votre compte Google ou créez un compte Google si vous n'en avez pas encore.
  2. Remplissez le formulaire d'inscription Citations. Si possible, indiquez aussi l'adresse email de votre université.
  3. Ensuite, on vous propose des articles rédigés par des personnes dont le nom est similaire au vôtre. Cliquez sur "Ajouter tous les articles" à côté de chaque groupe d'articles qui vous appartient ou sur "Voir tous les articles" pour ajouter des articles spécifiques de ce groupe. Si vous ne voyez pas vos articles dans ces groupes, cliquez sur "Rechercher des articles" pour effectuer une recherche régulière dans Google Scholar, puis ajoutez vos articles un par un. N'hésitez pas à faire autant de recherches que vous le souhaitez.
  4. Choisissez le paramétrage concernant la mise à jour de votre profil Google Scholar.
  5. Voilà c'est fait! Vous pouvez aussi ajouter votre photo, consulter vos mails (messagerie liée à votre université), vérifier la liste des articles. Quand tout est fini, si vous le souhaitez, rendez votre profil public pour qu'il apparaisse dans les résultats de recherche de Google Scholar.
